During the flight in Indonesia, both pilots fell asleep, the plane turned around

Another incident of pilots sleeping during the flight took place.

After an investigation into the Indonesian airline flight, it was found that both pilots of the commercial plane fell asleep during the flight. Indonesia’s air safety agency has called for better procedures to monitor pilot fatigue.

A preliminary report by the National Transportation Safety Committee said a pilot and co-pilot fell asleep simultaneously for about 28 minutes during a Batik Air flight from Southeast Sulawesi to the capital Jakarta on January 25. The report was uploaded on the agency’s website in late February.

Despite relying heavily on air transportation to connect its thousands of islands, Indonesia has a poor air safety record. Minutes after the last recorded transmission by the co-pilot, the area control center in Jakarta called off the plane. Tried to contact but no response.

Twenty-eight minutes after the last recorded transmission, the pilot awoke and realized that his co-pilot was asleep and the aircraft was not on the correct flight path.

He immediately woke up his colleague and answered calls from Jakarta and corrected the flight path. The plane landed safely after the incident, the report said. Investigators did not identify the pilots but said they were both Indonesian and aged 32 and 28.
