For the first time in the history of Pakistan, robotic surgery was performed on people suffering from diabetes and obesity at Jinnah Hospital Karachi.
Professor Shahid Rasool, head of Jinnah Hospital, claims that after this robotic surgery, patients will not need diabetes drugs and insulin.
Under the leadership of Professor Shahid Rasool, the doctors tried to end diabetes by shortening the woman’s stomach through surgery and the large intestine has also been shortened to speed up the digestive system. The robotic surgery lasted for one hour and the 45-year-old diabetic woman weighs 140 kg.
Professor Shahid Rasool said that after the surgery, the woman’s weight will be reduced and an attempt has been made to eliminate diabetes, after that the patient will not be given diabetes medicines and insulin. He said that in this way 70% of patients with diabetes get rid of it.
135 robotic surgeries of urology and gynecology including general surgeries have been performed in Jinnah Hospital Karachi, which was started in September 2023, but gynecological robotic surgeries were trained as it is a complex surgery, in this regard Gynecological Robotics A surgery workshop was also organized.
It should be noted that even in the neighboring countries of Pakistan, metabolic surgery has not been done through robotic surgery. For the first time in the history of Pakistan, obesity and metabolic surgery has been done at Jinnah Hospital.
In laparoscopic surgery, the wrist rotates through an angle of 180 degrees, while the arms of robotic surgery are capable of rotating through an angle of 360 degrees. The operation does not bleed much and the cut is also small.
