New ammonia-powered generator introduced in Japan
Japan’s largest energy producer (JERA) has introduced a generator that will run on ammonia as a trial run at a coal-fired power plant in central Japan.
According to NHK, the company’s goal is to replace 20 percent of the plant’s fuel with ammonia, which does not emit carbon dioxide. The trial involves modifying the structure of the company’s 1 million kilowatt-class power generators.
It should be noted that JERA wants to put the new procedure into practical use by 2027 or 2028.
