The presence of polio virus has been revealed in 10 sewage samples in Sindh, Balochistan and KPK.
According to sources, polio virus has been found in sewage samples obtained from Karachi, Naseerabad, Quetta, Lower Dera and Dera Bugti. Polio virus was found in 22 samples of sewage in one week. Polio virus has been confirmed in 56 sewage samples this year.
Sampling for polio test from affected cities was done from February 19 to 21. Polio has been found in five environmental samples of Karachi East. Polio virus has also been found in 2 sewage lines of Machhar Colony, Chakoda Nala, Sohrab Goth and the sewage line of Rashid Minhas in the areas of Karachi. Polio has been found 9 times in the sewage of Karachi East this year. Karachi East polio virus is genetically related to Quetta, Sibi.
According to sources, the sewage of Hijrat Colony of Karachi South is polio positive and is genetically related to Kemari.
Polio has been found in the sewage of Labor Nala in Dera Bugti area of Balochistan. Dera Bugti’s sewage polio virus is genetically related to Quetta. Polio virus has been found in the sewage of railway bridge of Quetta. This is the sixth case of polio virus found in Quetta this year.
The sewage of Wapda Colony of Naseer Abar is polio positive. Polio virus has been found in the sewage of Lower Dir Shaheed Chowk. Lower Dir sewage poliovirus is genetically related to Kohat.
