Surya Badshah……An iconic Leader
Those diamond like people are rare in the history of south Asia subcontinent. With their light and brilliance, every single particle of the homeland Pakistan is bright and radiant until now.
Today we are mentioning a great conqueror whose name echoes through the passage of time.
The great spiritual leader of Sindh, Pir Sibghatullah Shah Rashidi, popularly known as Surya Badshah (Brave King) during 1930-1943.
A powerful resistance movement was started against the British colonial state.
This Surya king is a legendary figure whose legacy spans generations to come. His role in the freedom movement of United India reflects this unwavering commitment to courage, wisdom, and justice.
And whose shadow spread the true concept of freedom and flourished public welfare under a grand and enlightened rule.
He emerged as a leader who was known for his mercy and compassion towards his subjects and a custodian and thinker of the rich Sindhi culture.
The pillar of the path had been the lighthouse for the generations. But the greatness of the great Surya king was not limited to the walls of the palace.
He led the soldiers of his ranks like an iron man with the eternal qualities of bravery, integrity and wisdom. The indomitable spirit greatly helped the whole movement to cope with indescribable difficulties.
The slogan of Hur Tehreek was compiled by Surya Badshah voice “Watan Ya Kafan, Azadi Ya Maut”. Under the leadership of Surya Badshah, thousands of his followers (male and female) practically revolted against the British rule and started the struggle to expel the British rulers from Sindh.
The present district was Sanghar. To crush the rebellion of the Hurs, the British government not only showed extreme violence but also imprisoned the Surya king. In 1942, the British government passed the Special Criminal Act in the Sindh Assembly and for the first-time martial law was imposed in Sindh.
It is said that thousands of Harar fighters were brutally tortured, imprisoned and executed to suppress the rebellion. Surya Badshah was imprisoned on various occasions from 1930 to 1943 in various jails like Poona, Midnapore, Ratnagiri, Raj. He was also imprisoned in Raj Shahi and Dhaka, where he met with various prominent leaders of the subcontinent.
In 1938, after eight years of imprisonment, the Surya king came to Sindh. And started organizing and mobilizing the freedom struggle regularly.
In 1940, when the struggle was at its peak, he was again arrested from Karachi and sent to Nagpur Jail in present India. On January 14, 1943, he was brought back to Sindh and transferred to Hyderabad Jail.
The British government initiated a trial for treason against him and he was sentenced to death in a court martial that lasted only 26 days.
On March 20, 1943, the great and freedom-loving leader of Hur Tehreek was hanged in Hyderabad Jail.
