Nairobi: A military helicopter in Kenya crashed shortly after takeoff, killing Army Francis Ogola and 9 other military officers on the spot.
According to the international news agency, President William Ruto confirmed the death of the army chief in the accident in a televised address to the nation and declared it an irreparable loss to the country and announced a 3-day national mourning day.
President William Ruto has called an emergency national security meeting on the country’s defense matters in view of the death of almost all of the country’s top military leadership in a helicopter crash.
President William Ruto said Kenya’s Chief of Defense Forces General Francis Omondi Ogola, along with nine other senior military officers, had left the capital Nairobi for a military tour of the northern regions and to inspect the renovation of a school.
The cause of the helicopter accident has not yet been determined, but an inquiry committee was formed to investigate the incident. The new army chief of the country has not been announced yet.
