Islamabad: Finance Ministry has released funds to clear the current backlog of passports.
According to the sources of the passport office, the international advertisement for the tenders for the purchase of printing machines and e-passport machines has been given, while the international advertisement for the tenders for the lamination papers used in printing is also going on.
Sources say that the backlog will end as soon as the purchase of passport machinery and lamination paper is completed.
According to the Passport and Immigration authorities, 20 to 25 thousand passports are being printed daily while 40 to 45 thousand requests for passport issuance are coming on the basis of customs clearance.
