Nepal yesterday announced the printing of a new 100 rupee currency note, which includes the country’s map in its design.
The map shows the areas of Lipulekh, Lumpiyadhura and Kalapani as part of Nepal, these areas are actually considered disputed areas between Nepal and India which are claimed by both countries.
Government Spokesperson Rekha Sharma, while briefing the cabinet’s decision, told the media that in a meeting of the Council of Ministers chaired by Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, it was decided to print a new map of Nepal on Rs 100 notes, in which Lipulekh, Lumpiyadhura and Kalapani is shown as part of Nepal.
On June 18, 2020, Nepal amended its constitution and announced to update the political map of the country by adding these 3 strategically important areas (Lipolekh, Kalapani and Lumpiyadhura) to Nepal.
India reacted strongly to this move by Nepal, terming it as a ‘unilateral move’ and saying that the artificial expansion of the disputed areas by Nepal is intolerable. Still maintained.
Nepal shares more than 1,850 km long border with India, India’s border areas with Nepal include 5 Indian states (Sikkim, West Bengal, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand).
