The death toll from floods in Kenya has risen to 228.
According to international media, the country’s Ministry of Interior said that the number of people who died in the floods in Kenya has reached 228. Earlier there were 179 deaths. Flooding also affected the Masai Mara Safari Park in western Kenya, where groups of tourists in hotels were swept away by the overflowing Telek River.
Earlier in the day, 46 people were killed in a landslide near the village of Mai Mahio in the central part of the country. According to a statement issued by the ministry, the situation is likely to worsen in low-lying and coastal areas and landslides and mudslides may also occur in hilly areas.
It should be noted that months of flooding in Kenya have destroyed houses, roads and bridges and displaced more than 210,000 people. The rains have also affected other East African countries. Floods and landslides in neighboring Tanzania have killed 155 people. Deaths and significant damage have been reported in Uganda and Burundi.
