At least 34 people have died and 16 are missing after heavy rains triggered floods and landslides in Indonesia’s western province of Sumatra.
According to a foreign news agency, Abdul Malik, head of the provincial rescue team, said that 34 people have died. The National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said in a statement that the Tanah Datar regency was inundated by the floods, affecting 5 sub-districts.
The National Disaster Management Agency said that according to their latest assessment, 84 housing units and 16 bridges have also been destroyed. According to the World News Agency, the rains in the province of Sumatra, Indonesia, turned into a flood, while a volcano also exploded, and the floodwaters that came out of it cooled down in the relay.
The flood relay, mixed with lava and mud, flattened everything in its path. Bodies of those who were swept away were found in a remote area. More than 16 citizens are missing and search is on. Dead bodies are being found during rescue operations.
