Archaeologists have recently discovered ancient settlements at Al-Siniya Island, a tourist destination about 42 miles northeast of Dubai, United Arab Emirates.
According to Arab media reports, these ancient settlements provide an insight into the early history of the region.
The report, citing the Emirates Department of Tourism and Archaeology, said that the settlements were discovered through excavations in March last year, after which it was found that an ancient pearl city existed there.
Archaeologists believe that the site probably dates back to the 4th century, at least 1600 years old.
A number of large jars imported from Mesopotamia have also been discovered at the site, two of them bearing Aramaic inscriptions dating from the 1st to the 4th century, he said.
He further said that these ruins could belong to the lost city of Tuam as the results of the investigation match the information about the city in history.
This ancient city was called Pearl city?
In fact, the English word ‘Pearling’ refers to the search for sea creatures and pearls that have been a part of the region’s culture for thousands of years.
