According to the spokesperson of the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR), more than 9 thousand SIMs of non-filers have been closed on the instructions of the FBR.
The spokesperson says that a meeting was held with the telephone companies yesterday in which the FBR informed the mobile companies about the decision to ban SIMs. The spokesman says that the decision to block the mobile phone SIMs of non-filers is the Parliament’s. The decision of the government has to be implemented in all cases.
Sources say that PTA has distanced itself from the issue of blocking SIMs.
It should be noted that 3 thousand 500 SIMs of non-filers were closed yesterday as well. Spokesperson FBR had said that around 3500 SIMs were blocked by 2 telecom companies, but the SIMs of the citizens who file the return will be restored immediately. Spokesperson FBR said that a telecom company has taken an injunction from the Islamabad High Court.
