Elon Musk, the owner of companies like Tesla and SpaceX, has said that artificial intelligence (AI) will take away all our jobs in the future.
Speaking online at a conference in Paris, Elon Musk said that ‘we may all be out of a job’, but he doesn’t think job losses are necessarily a bad thing.
Elon Musk envisions a future in which employment is optional.
“If you’re willing to work as a hobby, then you can work, but beyond that, AI and robots will do all the work for us,” he said.
He said that in such a situation the world would need a ‘universal high income’ model, but Elon Musk did not explain it. It should be clear that the universal basic income model is often mentioned.
The central idea of this model is that governments pay a certain amount to all citizens, regardless of their income, but the universal high income model would be different.
Elon Musk has been expressing concerns about AI technology for a long time, and during this event, he also mentioned AI as his biggest fear.
He said that ‘when all people are away from jobs, then what will be the purpose of our life? I think even then humans will have a role to play and that’s how we can make AI technology meaningful’.
