Another European country, Slovenia, also recognized Palestine as an independent state.
Slovenia’s parliament approves recognition of Palestine. Out of the 90-member parliament, 52 members supported the bill while others remained absent.
Of the 27 EU members, Sweden, Cyprus, Hungary, the Czech Republic, Poland, Slovakia, Romania and Bulgaria have already recognized a Palestinian state. Malta has said that it too will soon recognize Palestine as an independent state.
Spain, Ireland and Norway last week recognized Palestine as a state, after which according to Palestinian officials, the number of countries that recognize Palestine as a state has increased to 145 out of 193 member states of the United Nations.
