The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested V Logar Asad Toro on charges of “malicious campaign” against the Supreme Court. Asad is alleged to have condemned the Supreme Court’s decision to strip the PTI of its electoral symbol “bat” before the general elections.
Asad’s lawyer Iman Zainab Mazari has confirmed the arrest of Asad. Earlier, Iman Mazari had said in a video that the way journalists are being treated in this country is deplorable, the constitutional courts should play their role to ensure that such basic Rights should not be violated brazenly.
Iman Mazari gave the above statement at a time when Asad Toor appeared in the investigation agency on the summons of FIA but his lawyer was prevented from entering the office and the doors were closed. In this regard, he said. that after obtaining an order from the Islamabad High Court, went to the FIA office directing the agency not to harass the journalist but was still taken to the FIA premises without a legal team.
In an earlier post, Mazari had said that Toru had been detained in an FIA cell for the past few hours. It should be noted that Islamabad High Court’s Chief Justice Aamir Farooq heard V Lager Asad’s application against the FIA notice on the charge of running a propaganda campaign against the Chief Justice of Pakistan. While ordering no harassment, the FIA has directed an investigation to be included in the inquiry.
