For the first time in Pakistan, one liver transplant and pancreas transplant were successfully performed in two patients. Split liver transplant and pancreas transplant were performed at Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute (PKLI) Lahore.
Dean of Pakistan Kidney and Liver Institute, Lahore Dr. Faisal Saud Dar said in this regard that 7 people’s lives were saved from the organs of a brain dead patient in Rawalpindi, the organs of Uzair bin Yasin including liver, pancreas, kidney and eyes were removed on Sunday night.
Dean PKLI Dr. Faisal said that 32-year-old Uzair bin Yasin’s liver was transplanted into a child and a young person, Uzair’s donated pancreas was transplanted into a type one diabetic patient.
Dr. Faisal said that the donated eyes and kidneys were transplanted in 4 patients of Rawalpindi, the lives of 7 to 10 people can be saved with the organs donated by one person.
He said that thousands of people die every year in Pakistan due to lack of organ donation, if people start donating organs then many lives can be saved.
