The Election Commission of Pakistan has announced that the Senate elections will be held on April 2.
According to the Election Commission, the election schedule for the Senate elections will be released on March 14.
According to the Election Commission, 52 senators elected in 2018 are retiring today, after which elections will be held on 48 seats. 4 reserved seats of FATA have lapsed under the 25th constitutional amendment, due to which the total number of seats in the Senate has increased from 100. It has decreased to 96.
The 52 senators who retired today include Chairman Senate Sadiq Sanjrani, Deputy Chairman Mirza Afridi, Leader of the House Ishaq Dar, Leader of the Opposition Dr Shahzad Waseem and Senator Raza Rabbani.
Among the retired senators, 13 elected with the support of Muslim League (N), 12 of Pakistan Peoples Party, 8 of PTI, two members of Jamiat Ulema Islam (F), PK Map and National Party each, Balochistan. 6 elected with the support of Awami Party, one senator each from Jamaat-e-Islami, MQM and Muslim League Functional.
