Demand to start production of insulin locally in Pakistan

Last year, artificial shortage of insulin was created three times in Pakistan, as a result of which many children with type 1 diabetes died, while hundreds of children lost several organs for life.

Addressing the National Conference on Insulin Shortage, doctors, former ministers and senators said that the cost of insulin has increased by 45% due to the shortage in the last one year.

The conference was addressed by former Federal Health Advisor Dr. Zafar Mirza, former Caretaker Health Minister of Punjab Prof. Javed Akram, Chairman of Senate Standing Committee on Health Senator Humayun Mohmand and officers of DRAP.

On this occasion, medical experts demanded to start production of insulin locally in Pakistan, saying that currently 100% of insulin is being imported in Pakistan from abroad due to which its artificial shortage is created and Often there is a demand for increase in prices.

Experts revealed that insulin was not available in Pakistan for about 6 months last year, insulin was absent from the market three times in a year, type 1 diabetes patients faced problems due to lack of insulin. There was an increase of 45%. Medical experts said that there are about 100,000 people in Pakistan who are suffering from type 1 diabetes. Last year, many children suffering from type 1 diabetes died due to lack of timely insulin.

Experts say that Pakistan imports 100% of its required insulin, Pakistan should make its own insulin, the government should help the companies.
