Karachi: Severe shortage of medicines in Jinnah Hospital

Karachi’s largest government hospital is suffering from lack of facilities and the patients undergoing treatment in the hospital are also forced to buy life-saving medicines from outside.

Post Graduate Resident Dr. Kafeel Ahmed while talking to a private channel said that there is a shortage of life-saving drugs in Jinnah Hospital for several months while the emergency oxygen ports are broken and the ECG machine is also not available.

According to Dr. Kafeel Ahmed, there is a severe shortage of doctors including nursing staff in the emergency department. A large number of patients come to the emergency department of Jinnah Hospital on a daily basis, but there is not a single nursing staff per 100 patients.

On the other hand, Executive Director of Jinnah Hospital Professor Dr. Shahid Rasool claimed that Jinnah Hospital’s emergency condition is slightly better, due to the reduced budget, there are difficulties in providing and maintaining many facilities.

Dr. Shahid Rasool said that he provided medical facilities to 1300 patients in the five days of Eid, the pressure of patients in the hospital is high while the budget of the hospital is 12 to 13 billion rupees and this budget is according to the earlier 1100 beds, but now the hospital I have 2200 beds.

He said that he has requested the Sindh government to increase the budget of the hospital and the Chief Minister of Sindh has assured that the budget of the hospital will be increased this year.
