A delegation of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) support team reached Pakistan in connection with the long-term loan and the budget for the financial year 2024-25.
According to sources, the IMF delegation has reached Pakistan in the first phase of negotiations on the long-term loan program. The IMF-led mission is likely to reach Pakistan on the night of May 16.
Some of the members of the IMF mission who arrived in Pakistan for negotiations reached Pakistan. The IMF delegation will discuss the loan with Pakistan’s economic team.
Sources say that the IMF team will collect data from various departments while the mission members will also work on the budget 2024-25 in collaboration with Finance Ministry officials.
Pakistan has started negotiations with the IMF for a new 4-year program after which it is expected to receive 8 billion dollars. In this regard, this mission of the International Financial Institution will stay in Pakistan for more than 10 days.
On the other hand, the IMF has demanded Pakistan to impose an additional tax of 1300 billion rupees in the upcoming budget.
