The United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution on Palestine's permanent membership.

The United Nations General Assembly approved the resolution for the permanent membership of Palestine.

On Thursday, the United Nations General Assembly voted on the resolution of Palestine’s permanent membership, which was approved by 143 votes. 143 countries voted in favor of the resolution, while 9 countries opposed it and 25 countries were absent from the voting. .

In the resolution presented by the United Arab Emirates, the position has been adopted that according to Article 4 of the UN Charter, Palestine is fully eligible for the membership of the United Nations, so the Security Council should reconsider its decision regarding the membership of Palestine. .

On April 18, 2024, 12 members of the Security Council voted in favor of Palestine, but the United States vetoed the resolution, after which it could not be approved.

It should be noted that after the voting, Palestine did not get the membership of the United Nations, but it has been recognized as eligible to become a permanent member of the United Nations.

The UN resolution gives Palestine additional rights in the international body, allowing it to participate fully in debates and elect its own representatives to committees. However, Palestinians will still not have the right to vote. And for this it has to get the support of the Security Council because the decision of membership can be taken only by the Security Council of the United Nations.
