A high-level committee has been formed to address the issues of medical education in the country.

The Prime Minister of Pakistan Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif formed a 25-member committee to solve the problems of medical education. Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar was nominated as the Chairman of the Medical Education Committee.

Economic Affairs Minister Ahad Cheema, Law Minister Azam Tarar, Prime Minister’s Coordinator for Health Affairs Dr. Mukhtar, Dr. Nafisa Shah, Deputy Chairman Planning Commission Major General R. Dr. Azhar Kayani will be members of the committee.

Apart from this, Special Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Secretary Health, Chairman HEC, President PMDC, VC Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto Medical University Professor Tariq Iqbal, Provincial Secretaries Higher Education Department, Secretary Health will also be members of the committee. Besides, Dean Khyber Medical College Peshawar Dr. Mahmood Aurangzeb, Vice Chancellor Dow University, Health Sciences Prof. Saeed Qureshi, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Lahore Dr. Mahmood Ayaz, Vice Chancellor Shifa Niram Millat University Prof. Iqbal Khan, Vice Chancellor University of Health Sciences Lahore Prof. Ahsan Waheed, Dean Aga Khan Medical University Karachi Dr. Adil Hussain, Principal Bolan Medical College Quetta Prof. Raz Mohammad Kakar will also be members of the committee.

The committee will review the quality of public and private medical colleges and universities while considering the situation and challenges faced by public and private medical colleges.

This special committee will make recommendations regarding government, private medical colleges and also review the shortage of seats in government, private medical colleges, universities. The committee will consider the demand and supply gap for medical education and prepare an action plan regarding medical education.

The committee will review the accreditation process of private medical colleges, consider admissions of students in unaccredited foreign medical colleges. It will propose a policy on admissions to foreign medical colleges. The committee will review the number of people going abroad for medical education.

In the letter issued by the government, it is stated that the committee will submit a report regarding medical education in ten days.
