The wreckage of a US submarine sunk in World War II has been found in the Philippine Sea after 80 years.
On August 24, 1944, the USS Harder was targeted and sunk by a Japanese submarine while on a combat mission to liberate the Philippines from Japanese occupation.
The American submarine sank with its entire crew of 79 after a clash with Japanese forces. The wreckage of the USS Harder was confirmed thanks to data provided by the ‘Lost 52 Project’.
The project, led by K Tim Taylor, aims to locate all 52 US submarines lost during World War II. Notably, the project has already successfully located six other submarines.
