Colombo: Heavy rains in Sri Lanka turned into floods, during which 14 people were killed in mudslides and falling trees.
According to the World News Agency, monsoon rains and storms wreaked havoc in the islands of Sri Lanka. In 20 out of 25 districts, the system of life was disrupted.
Wildlife officials have found 7 dead bodies of young elephants that were swept away by the floods. This is the highest number of elephants killed in an accident or disaster in the last 5 years.
Near the capital Colombo, 3 people of the same family drowned in the flood while 9 people were crushed by falling trees. The boy died.
Flights arriving at Colombo’s main international airport are being diverted to another airport. The government has ordered the closure of all schools after the Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains with thunderstorms for the next few days. Ordered.
