Announcement to allow foreigners to join the Australian Army

Australia has announced that it will allow foreigners to join the army. Foreign nationals will also be recruited in the army to increase the number of soldiers.

Australia’s Deputy Prime Minister and Defense Minister Richard Donald Marles said steps had been taken to fill the gap of 4,400 personnel in the armed forces.

Marles said Australia was in a critical position due to pressure from foreign forces due to trade with the world, so foreign nationals would also be allowed to join the military.

Explaining the target of increasing the number of full-time personnel to 63,600, Marles announced that the government intends to increase this number to 80,000 by 2040.

Marles said military recruitment would be limited to the Five Eyes, an intelligence alliance formed by the US, England, Australia, Canada and New Zealand, and to iqama holders in Australia. New Zealanders living in Australia, From July, while the United States, Great Britain and Canadians will also be able to join the army from January 2025.
