The voting for Pakistan to become a non-permanent member took place in the 78th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
182 countries supported Pakistan’s non-permanent membership, Pakistan has been elected as a member for 2025-2026.
Before Pakistan, the seat of the Asia-Pacific Group was held by Japan.
Shahbaz Sharif said in his statement that being elected as a member of the Security Council is a proof of the nation’s commitment to peace and security, and will work together with the international community to deal with the challenges.
Apart from this, Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar has congratulated Pakistan on being elected as a non-permanent member of the Security Council.
