A meeting was held under the chairmanship of Chief Secretary Sindh Syed Asif Haider Shah to deal with the situation after possible stormy rains in the province.
Municipalities Minister Saeed Ghani and Rehabilitation Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman and others participated in the meeting while all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and Assistant Commissioners participated on video link.
In the meeting, the Department of Rehabilitation gave a briefing on the arrangements in view of floods and rains.
Rehabilitation Minister Makhdoom Mehboob Zaman said that more than normal rains are expected in Sindh from July to September, 5 to 9 lakh cusecs of water may enter the Indus River due to rain and glacier melting.
The participants of the meeting were also informed about 1026% more rains than normal in Padaidan during the rains of 2022. It was informed in the meeting that during the rains of 2022, there were 584% more rains than normal in Larkana, Karachi, Jamshoro and 3 lakh tents, 19 lakh mosquito nets and 572 heavy dewatering pumps have been installed in Sukkur.
Chief Secretary Sindh Asif Haider Shah said that all institutions should be in touch with Meteorological Department and PDMA. Ensure availability of emergency equipment, machinery, dewatering pumps and personnel, climate change is causing more than normal rainfall and floods. He also directed to take inventory of all machinery including life jackets, boats and rescue personnel. of
The Chief Secretary of Sindh said that there is a risk of urban flooding due to rain in all major cities of Sindh. Ensure supply of medicines by implementing emergency in health hospitals.
In the meeting, Provincial Minister Saeed Ghani said that local government representatives will also be included in the rehabilitation works, and in case of any emergency, relief camps will be made at UC level.
He further said that rations, tents and other essential items should be kept in godowns at the district level, funds would be provided to WASA in Hyderabad soon.
